Is there any moral difference between owning vintage/antique fur, ivory, crocodile, or tortoise shell?

Many people own heirlooms or even old pianos that were made using ivory. Crocodile and alligator were common in the 40s, 50s, and 60s for making purses and shoes. Many people harp on people for owning vintage furs. Is there any moral difference? Is fur somehow worse? It seems somewhat perverse to me because fur coats were considered necessities when they were originally made in cold climates (my grandfather says that when he was growing up in Winnipeg everyone had a fur coat)

If the animal is already dead I seriously doubt if it minds.
