Pins are going to be needed to hold your pattern together with the material. Pins should be sharp and straight. Usually, 1.25 is a good size. Try to place them in a straight row with the same distance between each pin. Pin cushions vary in size. Some are counter pin cushions that just sit on the table or area you are working. Some people decide on wrist pin cushions because of their convenience. You could make your own because usually they are made up of an adjustable strap of cotton fabric with a velcro closure. This is a great tool to have when you hand sew or machine sew.
Using a wrist pin cushion is simple. Just attach the wrist pin cushion on your wrist and adjust to your fit. Place pins in the cushion and you are ready to begin. This will help you stay organized during your project.
A measuring tape is important when measuring your material. It is flexible and has easy to read numbers on it. There are a few types to choose from. Cloth, which is a better choice for sewing because it is flexible, fiberglass, or a metal strip type.
